Although the templating features of CMSMS are very powerful, it can also be very confusing to people that are just starting out. Particularly the content blocks that can be inserted into page templates. Web developers frequently get confused as to what they are, how they work, and how they can effect module behaviour.

Here we'll explain how the {content} blocks work in CMSMS (up to, and including version 1.7.x). However we're not going to bother to duplicate documentation that is already supplied in the CMSMS core, so we won't be explaining every option, or how to use smarty.

What is a Content Block

A content block (or a content tag) is a tag that starts with {content in your page template that indicates a particular place where a piece of page content will be placed when the page is rendered. When creating or editing a content page, the parses the page template and detects these blocks. According to the arguments supplied with the tag a field is displayed that allow the page creator or editor to adjust what will appear there. This content block may be a fully wysiwyg controlled text area, a simple text area, or a single one line text field.
