Newsletter

Just some brief notes on the Newsletter module to start things off

1. Adjust the template "Newsletter" to your design - this is the template used to send the newletter.

2. Create a subscribe page - you could add other lines for unsubscribe, etc. All Lists in the NMS that are marked with "Public" appear on this page for the user to subscribe to.

3. Open the NMS tab: you will see

Lists - These the lists of subscribers - public, are those who signed up from the subscribe page mentioned above, private - you will have to enter yourself from the import users link from the Users tab.

Users - manages the users for each of the lists (note when a user signs up from outside they are sent a confirmation email, hence the Confirmed indicator. This is needed to stop people signing up others to annoy them. It allows you to delete those who do not confirm.)

Messages - Here is where you create the content "Compose Message" of your newsletter that is placed in the template.

Jobs - A job is a sending of the newsletter. Here you will see a list of these jobs and the status. Clicking Create job gives you the opportunity to select a message, a list and give the job a name (this appears in the subject line of the email). Once you have created a job you see th options to Delete and Process. Process means send the emails and Delete means clear the process queue. Sometimes it appears the Processing fails to complete - if you get an error "Temporary table still exists...." and re processing and then deleting jobs doesn't work, then try cleaning the temporary table using the link that should appear. If this all fails you may have to employ phpMyAdmin, or similar, to delete the relevant rows from the _module_NMS_temp_jobstatus table.

Preferences are what they say.

Subscribe, Confirm Subscribe,and Unsubscribe are the templates linked to the tag you place in the subscribe page mentioned above {cms_module module='NMS' mode="subscribe"/"unsubscribe"/ and "usersettings"} respectively

Troubleshooting:

If you move a site to a new server, and NMS no longer sees your lists, the reason may be that the new server has case-sensitive database tables.

If you're using MySQL, you can add the following line to your my.cnf, which will fix it:

lower_case_table_names=1

If you have not already modified the settings in the module CMS Mailer, you will probably find NMS does not work properly. It might not be sending your messages, even if you get the admin message saying that it did.

Go to CMS Mailer, and make sure all the settings are correct.

One of the simplest changes you can make, if nothing else is working, is to change the value in the pull-down menu to "mail."
